Sean Nowlan

Sean C. Nowlan is a distinguished intelligence professional with over 30 years of service in the U.S. Army and Intelligence Community, including roles with the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Special Mission Units. He led significant reforms for the Joint Requirements Oversight Council (JROC), which were adopted across the Joint Force and Defense Intelligence Enterprise (DIE).

In 2023, Sean founded Gordias Consulting, specializing in defense, intelligence, and global security. Gordias supports clients with acquisitions, digital innovation, modernization, and organizational transformation.

From 2019 to 2023, Sean served as Vice Deputy Director of Force Modernization at the Joint Chiefs of Staff, overseeing intelligence, space, software, data, and AI/ML requirements. He transformed the JROC’s capability portfolio management process and chaired the J2 Workforce Council for 800+ intelligence personnel.

Sean also served as the senior intelligence officer for the 75th Ranger Regiment, 1st Special Forces Command, and Special Mission Units, with extensive deployments across South Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. His experience has given him a deep understanding of geopolitical, socio-economic, and cultural dynamics shaping national security and defense strategy.

Sean is a MIT Seminar XXI Fellow, holds a Master’s in Personal Financial Planning from Kansas State University (2010), a Master’s in National Resource Strategy from the Eisenhower School (2019), and a Bachelor’s in Criminology from Auburn University (1997).
