LTC Nicholas “Nick” Goshen led a life full of impact and purpose. He knew from a young age he wanted to be in the military. He overcame challenges early in life through determination and hard work. This shaped him to become a dedicated leader, always striving to improve. He led by example demonstrating unwavering honor, duty, and character. He deployed 42+ months over seven deployments. It was his greatest honor to live, work, and fight beside soldiers for whom he cared so deeply.  He was fun loving and it brought him great joy to make others laugh at his antics. He was an avid Ohio State University and unapologetic Cleveland sports fan. He loved to be outdoors, fishing with his family, or hiking with his dog, Polo. He was a cherished son, a beloved brother, and a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart, Megan.  Nick passed away during a deployment in 2022.

LTC Goshen graduated from the Citadel in 2004 as a Distinguished Military Graduate and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry Branch. After completing the Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course, LTC Goshen served in various company leadership positions within 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th IBCT, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. During this assignment, LTC Goshen deployed to Ramadi, Iraq from 2006-2007 as a light and heavy platoon leader. LTC Goshen then served as the Executive Officer (XO) for the University of Southern California Army ROTC program where he also completed a Master of Communication Management degree.

After graduating from the Military Intelligence Captain Career Course, LTC Goshen was assigned as a Battalion S2 within 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 4th IBCT, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York, where he deployed to Kandahar Providence, Afghanistan. He then served in 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, as the Senior Intelligence Officer. During this assignment, LTC Goshen deployed twice, serving as the J2 for a Joint Special Operation Task Force in Afghanistan.

Following promotion to major, LTC Goshen participated in the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College’s Interagency Fellowship Program, where he conducted a one-year rotation at the National Security Agency. Later, he served as the Brigade Combat Team (BCT) S2 at the 173rd IBCT (A) at Vincenza, Italy. LTC Nicholas Goshen then served as the XO for the Regimental Military Intelligence Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. During this period, LTC Goshen deployed three times, serving as the J2 for a Joint Special Operations Task force in Afghanistan. LTC Goshen served at the Pentagon with the Joint Staff J2, first as the XO for the Vice Director of Intelligence and then as a Division Chief  within the Deputy Directorate for Force Modernization (J2F). He returned to Fort Campbell in 2022. He deployed to Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, Romania and served as  the 101st Division G2 until his untimely passing.

LTC Goshen’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Valor; Bronze Star; Purple Heart; Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Joint Service Commendation Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon; National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; NATO Medal; Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge; Ranger Tab; Combat Infantryman Badge; Combat Action Badge; Parachutist Badge; and Air Assault Badge. He was posthumously awarded the Legion of Merit as well as the Land Forces Emblem of Honor by the Romanian Army.
